5 on Friday!

I’m linking up with Natasha from Hello! Happiness for 5 on Friday today.

1. I added three blogs to my Favorites this week thanks to New York City Fashion Week: Style By Lolly, Devon Rachel, and A PIECE of TOAST.  I stumbled across these via two of my favorite blogs: What Courtney Wore and Damsel in Dior.  Love the fact that both these bloggers are from Texas too!  I can’t decide which is my favorite outfit from NYFW – either this sharp ensemble or this DFW Wrap dress.

2. Speaking of fashion, Kate Middleton was looking GREAT post-baby at a black tie event last night.  I hope my post-baby recovery next spring is the same!  Hallelujah for a real-women mother figure.

3. This past week I have been working on organizing our favorite recipes.  I printed a template from iHeartOrganizing, proceeded to write down every favorite that my husband and I have cooked and where the recipe came from.  Yes, I said my husband and I.  He likes to saute’ things.

It felt nice to be organized, but at the same time I realized that I need to add more favorite dishes to our collection.  Thankfully, two cookbooks from my mom arrived in the mail this past week.  The cookbook that has the most potential is actually the Hungry Girl 200 under 200 cookbook.  I think I will just tell my husband that the recipes are from Food Network!  I am going to try a recipe for a healthy version of the Bloomin’ Onion this weekend.

4.  To go along with the Bloomin’ Onion, I am going to make this hamburger for him this weekend with some organic beef from the Farmers Market.  He LOVES fried eggs on his hamburgers.  I however will be perfectly happy with a nice cheeseburger.

5. This post inspired me to make a new wreath for our front door with hydrangeas.  Until the weather truly turns fall, I am always stumped what to decorate the front door with.  (First world problems, I know.)  I like to leave our American wreath up from Memorial Day until after September 11th, but it seems to soon to pull out my fall wreath.  I like to combine the fall decor with Halloween anyways.  Annnnnd I’d honestly rather go purchase supplies to make a new wreath than climb up into the attic and find the box labeled fall decorations…

Happy weekend!

Packing Lunches: My Arch-Nemesis

This morning I was reminded why I do not pack a lunch more often. I love the idea of packing a lunch. There is something so classic about paper lunch bags with whole wheat sandwiches wrapped in wax paper, an apple and a bag of chips.

Back to reality. As a family who ALWAYS forgets to purchase ziploc baggies (I should seriously just order some to be delivered) and someone who somehow turns lettuce to brown/lunch meat to mold immediately upon touching, we never have the supplies for my dream brown bag lunch. So I have attempted to compromise with purchasing all shapes and sizes of pyrex dishes. Usually it works out just fine if you have all the matching lids…

I said screw it this morning, grabbed a whole foods bag, and threw all parts of my taco salad lunch in the bag: carton of cherry tomatoes, Catalina dressing, bag of almost-not-quite brown lettuce, little pyrex of taco meat and cheese, paper bowl, and to top it all off? I just dumped some tortilla chips directly in the bag much to the horror of my husband. There is nothing like your husband looking at you first thing in the morning like you a crazy lady.

I crushed the tortilla chips up on top of my salad anyways!

Regardless, I think it’s time I invest in a real lunch tote, like this one.

5 on Friday

Originally I was going to try a dashboard post for the weekend, but then stumbled across this Five on Friday theme from one of my favorite bloggers: http://www.kittyandjune.com/. This seemed more socially acceptable (and fun!) than my original idea!

1. I cannot wait to tackle my 3 year olds room this weekend. She beat me to the punch by unpacking boxes herself, or rather dumping all contents of the boxes. I am also going to separate her toys and box some away in the attic so we can begin to cycle through toys. I am tired of feeling claustrophobic in my own house due to the mass quantities of blocks, tea sets, tea cups, legos, and etc etc etc! The comforter I purchased for her room (poor child has lived without a comforter since she made the transition to the big bed) might be delivered tomorrow. Fingers crossed!

2. I’m going to indulge my geeky side tonight by staying up, going outside and looking east to watch a NASA rocket launch tonight.  I think I can stay awake on a Friday night until 11:30!  And it’s a pretty cool mission for this rocket.

3. I so excited for AWANAs and MOPS to start this Sunday and Monday night in our area!  This years MOPS theme is A Beautiful Mess.  Should be great!  I hope I can keep the nerve to go as it will be at a new church where we will be strangers.  We thoroughly enjoyed both AWANAS and MOPS last school year with 1st Baptist Roanoke.  Special place in my heart for those people!

4. All I can think about is good cheese melted on bread right now.  I think I will make one of my favorites avocado and goat cheese grilled cheese.  Omygoodnessgracious.  I also really want to try this grilled Fontina and Blackberry Basil Smash Sandwiches.  I LOVE blackberries and fontina cheese!  I also have okra in my fridge from the farmer’s market, so I think I might make a good ole fashion gumbo tonight.  Love me some Cajun food!

5. Someone from my alma mater posted this article about 15 signs you know you are a D.C. parent.  We qualify for most of them, but I think we need to visit Clemyjontri park this weekend!
